Shoppers on Broad Street were treated to a pre-Independence delight as our own Republic Bank Chorale serenaded visitors and locals with their renditions of popular folk songs, under the theme “Old Time Barbados”.
Just after 11:00 am on Friday November 29, 2019 the Chorale, adorned in costumes featuring our national colours, assembled on the steps of our busy flagship Broad Street Branch and rendered a selection of popular folk song including “Gerdene, Brudda Neddy, The Standpipe Song, Nutseller, Coco Tea” and others, complete with a full narration weaving them all together and skillfully depicting the story of our nation’s past. Some members of staff sang solos as they got into character and retold the stories of old.
So popular was the performance that it was widely covered by both the traditional and digital media and even inspired a feature in the Sunday Sun.
Photos and videos of the Chorale’s performance went viral on social media, via Nation’s Instagram page, Republic Bank’s Facebook page, as well as the Facebook and Instagram pages of shoppers, with many liking and sharing the content.
