Developed in response to areas identified by staff as needing attention, twenty-three supervisors from across all departments and branches of Republic Bank recently completed a thirteen month Diploma in Management programme at the Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business.
“Staff sent a strong signal that we need to improve our leadership capabilities, so in response, the Bank introduced this programme last February,” said Senior Manager Human Resources, Yvonne Hall. The programme entailed participant attendance two to five days each month over a period of thirteen months and covered twelve modules including effective business communication, human resource management, strategic planning and project management. Participants also engaged in role playing exercises and completed group projects.
According to Managing Director and CEO Anthony Clerk, launched February 8, 2017, this programme has been run in Barbados for the first time and is one of several developed under Republic Bank’s Blue Thunder strategic initiative that will see the Bank focus on manpower development.
“Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive” said Clerk who also indicated that some participants who were initially hesitant thanked the Bank for being selected. “Participants have also advised us that they are already implementing much of what they have learnt as they fulfill their day-to-day responsibilities,” he added.
The programme culminated with a presentation of group projects witnessed by members of the Bank’s senior management team and other UWI personnel and the presentation of Diplomas.
