Over 30 corporate writers recently benefitted from a Republic Bank sponsored seminar “Write like a Pro” hosted by Clarity Communications and facilitated by veteran writer, corporate communicator and Principal of Clarity Communications Mr. Richard Thomas.
Held at The Courtyard Marriott Barbados on 13 November, 2019, the half day seminar targeted corporate writers, communicators and brand specialists.
The interactive seminar dealt with the value of corporate writers, how corporate writers differ from journalists and the corporate writer’s mission.
The structured session was also focused on press releases, feature articles, thought leadership, opinion pieces and commentaries. Thomas took participants through the rudiments of effective writing and exposed them to the dos and don’ts while utilizing various styles depending on the purpose and the intended audience.
Participants noted the value of attending such sessions and indicated that the information gained would be beneficial to them in their day-to-day duties.
Four employees from Guyana Telephone & Telegraph also participated.
Thomas reminded those in attendance that the corporate writer’s mission is “To produce clear, concise, easy-to-read communication that establishes credibility and helps to build trust“ and that, as he puts it, “Credibility is your currency”.
