Barbados, September 6th, 2018 – One Barbados Place, the new home of the Republic Bank Warrens Branch exemplifies modern environmental and energy-efficient design in keeping with the Bank’s focus on “Going Green”.
Republic Bank was praised by Property Developer and Managing director of, One Warrens Ltd, James Edghill, for the confidence and leadership shown in supporting environmental aspects of the project. Particularly of note is that every square foot of space in the new Republic Bank Warrens Branch will be fully powered by photovoltaic cells.
“Republic Bank Limited continues to invest and innovate in Barbados and an example of this is the solar car port which produces enough electricity to power their entire Branch – a first for any banking branch in the Caribbean. I would like to challenge other leaders in the private and public sectors to emulate this approach and consider green technologies and life-cycle costs in all their projects,” said Edghill.
The property developer said One Barbados Place looked forward to welcoming other tenants from the public sector who would also benefit from the environmentally-friendly design.
“Energy efficiency was a driving factor in the design of this building and I am proud of the energy efficient practices employed in the design and construction of the building including: insulated glazing, LED lighting, photovoltaic systems, rain water harvesting and VRF air conditioning.”
In consideration of other aspects of employee well-being, Edghill noted that One Barbados Place also featured secure parking, a dedicated gym, and outdoor entertaining area. He said the developers of One Barbados Place had been selected by the Barbados National Standards Institute (BNSI) and the CARICOM Regional Energy Efficiency Building Code for collaboration in setting best practice standards for buildings throughout the Caribbean.
He said One Barbados Place was the result of collaboration between the private and public sectors along with regulatory agencies, and also gave credit to developers Caribbean Consultants Limited and the team at Republic Bank.
In his comments on the environmental direction of the project, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Clerk said the Bank sought to develop a futuristic and comfortable space for customers and employees.
Clerk stated: “We sought to partner with an entity which would develop an edifice that we believed would not only provide a comfortable space for our customers and staff in first-world accommodation, but would complement the landscape and encompass technological advances that would see us well into the future. One such initiative is energy conservation and the embracing of a green agenda introduced Bank-wide here in Barbados in 2017.”
