Republic Bank’s 'Remember Me Now' to put up strong defence of Game Fishing title

The defending champion crew aboard “Remember Me Now” is ready to put up a strong defence of the title claimed last year when the 27th Annual Barbados Game Fishing Association International Fishing Tournament gets underway from Port St. Charles today with sponsorship from Republic Bank.

In a boost to its title defence, a well prepared Remember Me Now is now also sponsored by Republic Bank and will sail under the colours of the tournament sponsor.

Following a recent sponsorship presentation by Republic Bank both to Remember Me Now and the Barbados Game Fishing Association at the Shallow Draught, owner of Remember Me Now Anthony Thompson said he was confident of a strong performance in the tournament again this year.

“We are looking forward to retaining our title, and we are overwhelmed this year to have Republic Bank on board. I am very happy about that, and I hope that Republic Bank will be there for a very long time.”

The veteran angler said he would once again be expecting big things from fellow crew members including his wife, Tricia Lynch and champion junior Jake Hurley, though they will this time be missing the experience of his daughter Rianna Thompson.

“We had success in Barbados last year coming first, then we went to Trinidad and placed third; and in those tournaments we either had a junior angler winning the grand prize or a female. Rianna normally wins as the female, and Tricia won female in Tobago. Last year our Jake Hurley, who was then 14 years old, won junior and overall angler. You don’t find that very often.”

Thompson said Remember Me Now would again place emphasis on the contribution of its junior and female anglers.

“We are all about teamwork. A good crew working together, that is what it takes. We will again be looking to our female and junior anglers with some instructions from the seniors. We nominate a captain, and everyone else on the boat has a job to do.”

CEO and Managing Director of Republic Bank, Ian De Souza, said the Bank was happy to be on board as sponsor of Remember Me Now, while as a tournament sponsor for the third year, he also wished the best of luck to all competitors.

“We are certainly pleased with the emphasis that is being placed on women and young people to excel in a sport like game fishing and we are happy to be involved for yet another year,” he added.

Close to BBD $100,000 in prizes will be at stake in the tournament which runs from today until Sunday when it will conclude with the presentation ceremony at Port St. Charles. Anglers compete for a range of exciting prizes including monetary awards for record landings, first to fifth placed boats and individual champions in the junior, female and overall categories.
