Street Signs to highlight “Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison”

In 2012, Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison was designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Two Republic Bank buildings are located within its environs.

Throughout the month of November, the Ministry of Transport and Works will erect 150 signs on 80 streets in Bridgetown. The first sign to be installed was placed on Republic Bank’s Headquarters located at Independence Square and Probyn Street.

Minister of Transport and Works, Michael Lashley, recently revealed the two signs at the launch of the Barbados World Heritage Street Signage Project at Probyn Street. Minister Lashley thanked Republic Bank for allowing the first sign to be erected on its building, and urged other property owners to partner by granting permission to erect street signs on their premises.

Manager, Marketing & Corporate Communications, Deborah Stoute noted “this initiative is one that must be applauded. Republic Bank is pleased to be a part of this activity that seeks to highlight the country’s history and rich cultural heritage.” The ceremony was also attended by Mrs. Susan Torry, General Manager Retail Banking and other public sector officials including the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Culture.

This project coincides with celebrations of Barbados’s 48th Anniversary of Independence.
