Barbados, May 31st, 2019 – There has been no security breach of Republic Bank’s drive through “Blue Machine” ATM at Carlton, Black Rock St. Michael.
This was made clear by the Bank after photos of the Carlton Machine displaying a security message surfaced earlier today.
Recently appointed Manager Marketing and Corporate Communications, Sophia Allsopp-Cambridge, said a cutting edge security system installed to prevent breaches of Republic Bank’s network is working to protect both the Bank and its customers. She said the security message displayed by the Blue Machine at Carlton indicated that the security system is working perfectly as designed.
“Republic Bank’s network of Blue Machine ATM’s is protected by a state-of-the-art security system which was triggered to initiate a shutdown of the machine by a user forcefully inserting a card. The machine was taken offline and reset and has been put back into service,” Cambridge said.
Republic Bank is advising persons using Blue Machine ATMs to be patient and allow their cards to travel freely into the card slots, since attempting to use force will likely be detected as a security breach and reported to the Bank.
In 2017, Republic Bank completed a card processing system security upgrade bringing significant service and security enhancements to its Point of Sale and Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) infrastructure. In addition to providing fast and reliable functionality, the upgrade was also intended to foil hackers, skimmers, or any kind of attack intended to capture cash or customer information.
